I would really like to understand this more and what are the uses of the Filament packages sold in the store? It is nice that it shows things that texture shaded draw style does not, like the HDRI sky. I am just wondering what its actual use is? It is better than texture shaded and not as detailed as iray. I noticed in the new Daz update there is a filament draw style now. This is a discussion on what the Filament draw style is and what its uses are. As it is it's still a huge improvement over the old texture shaded preview mode, and will likely be my new default viewport setting. This is the text of an opening post (not by me) on a thread in the technical Daz Forum requesting information about Filament, which has suddenly appeared out of nowhere. If DAZ can make the Filament render style more closely represent the Iray production render look, or at least allow you to set draw settings for each style that are applied independently depending on the render preview style chosen, than this'll be a godsend. Well, aside from saving and loading rendering presets I guess - that's still an option, but it sort of erodes the speed/convenience benefits of the real-time render previews And unfortunately those settings are global: you don't have the ability to set one set of tonemapping settings for Filament previews and one set for Iray previews and rendering.

To get this shot I had to tweak the tonemapping and environment settings a bit, otherwise the scene would be very overbright and washed out. The cons are that, unlike Eevee, it's not a very accurate preview of an Iray render. The pros are that it's a more accurate render style than the old texture-shaded style and performs more quickly (it's legit real-time, including instant renders). The latest public betas of DAZ Studio have included what they call the "Filament (PBR)" render engine, which is their first take on a real-time lighting engine similar to what you'd find in a computer game, or Blender's Eevee renderer.
